Creative Communication

Storytelling with something at stake.

Dan Bracken is a communications director, visual storyteller, designer and photographer based in Tipp City, Ohio. For more than 20 years, he has led creative communication, branding, digital media, photography, video storytelling and emerging-technology work for mission-driven organizations.

Dan serves as Communications Director at Ginghamsburg Church in southwest Ohio, where his work spans brand strategy, graphic design, photography, video, web, social media, digital communication and organizational storytelling.

His career has developed at the intersection of creativity and mission. He has traveled with a camera throughout the United States and internationally to document stories in places including Jamaica, Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Palestine, El Salvador and Cuba. Those experiences helped shape his belief that visual storytelling can do more than communicate information—it can create empathy by bringing people closer to experiences outside their own.

Writing & Ideas

Questions worth sitting with.

Dan writes about communication, creativity, leadership, faith, technology and the changing nature of creative work. His writing tends to begin with questions rather than answers: How should an organization talk about itself? What happens when technology increases output faster than capacity? What responsibilities come with artificial intelligence? And what happens to creative professionals when the tools themselves become creative?

How Should A Church Talk About Itself?

Branding, belonging and whether the language an organization uses can help people feel like insiders rather than outsiders.

Photography & Design

Strategy is better when somebody can make the thing.

Dan began his career in graphic design, but a camera eventually became one of his most important storytelling tools.

His work now moves freely between photography, graphic design, brand development, video storytelling and creative direction. Projects range from organizational identity and communication campaigns to documentary photography, global mission storytelling and work for churches, nonprofits, families and community organizations.

Emerging Technology

New tools. Old human questions.

Dan has a long-standing curiosity about what happens when new technology changes the way people communicate.

In 2022, he began publicly exploring ministry in virtual reality and the metaverse , including immersive storytelling, digital community and the relationship between virtual and in-person connection.

Today much of that curiosity has shifted toward artificial intelligence, spatial computing and the changing creative workplace.

How can emerging tools help people do meaningful creative work without losing the human part?
About Dan

Communication strategy—and actually making the thing.

Dan has spent most of his professional career in Tipp City and the Dayton, Ohio region. His work sits somewhere between communication strategy and actually making the thing—writing the story, designing the graphic, taking the photograph, producing the video, building the campaign or stepping onto a stage to communicate it.

He remains most interested in ideas that help people see something differently, understand one another better and turn good intentions into meaningful action.
